The shirt he wore was a black button down: the material had a sheen to it with designs woven into the fabric.  Something about the shirt made him look more attractive than normal.  Or maybe it was that he had just fed me and somewhere deep down within my primal being that bumped him up on the attractiveness scale.
I turned my back toward him, preferring to look at the dark television instead of the sex-on-a-stick that had just reduced me to a pile of goo.  Humiliated at my school girl reaction to him, I took a deep breath, and then a second, and a third.  I could still hear blood hammering through my body as I willed my pulse to slow down.
Dave's hands squeezed my shoulders, as shivers erupted in my body.  "I'd feel better if you were here    where I could be sure you were safe."
Leaning into him I whispered a soft kiss on his lips, "I'm glad you'll miss me."

Perfect One Day Read...

It comes as no surprise to me that I devoured this book in just one sitting.  Although Nancy Straight has only written paranormal like books prior to this one, you would think she was born to write contemporary.  This book was everything that I want in a standalone and a contemporary, hands down and without a single doubt.  I should mention that when I say single sitting, I was up until almost 2am because, I had to finish it.  I said one more chapter several times and well, one more chapter never stopped until I had turned the last page.

As per the normal, Straight crafted her characters and the setting perfectly.  It was easy to submerge myself into a book where I could clearly see and at several points relate to the main character.  Also, it helped that the pacing was almost flawless, keeping me wanting to speed through to find out what would happen next and how Candy would deal with the constant curve balls being thrown her way.  I swear that there were times my heart would be racing, and my mind speeding through all of the possibilities.  All things considered, the plot was unique in this sense as well.  I loved the little twist with Dave and how it made me question so much.

Candy Kane (fun right), was such an easy character to connect with.  She is in so many ways the girl that you want to have as a best friend.  The type of girl that you never question her loyalty, and would go out of her way to protect and take care of the people she loves.  So many times she was forced to question herself and deal with a situation that was way beyond and above anything that was in her realm of possibilities.  Candy was a strong character but she was not unbreakable, her decisions were not perfect.  However, her inner strength and her desire to do what was right always surpassed anything else and made her the type of character you not only love but route for.

What I loved so much about the romance in this book was that it wasn't instant.  Yes, it was faster... But there was a history between the two.  Dave and Candy went all the way back to high school.  No they were not the high school sweethearts that everyone awed over.  In fact rather than one commonality that even united them; her classic car that he restored.  However, Dave grew up nicely and became the kind of guy that we all wish we had looked at, not sent glares his way.  However, lucky for Candy she had always been kind to him, because heck it is just in her mature and because of this something awesome happened.  The chemistry that these two developed was enough to give me butterflies at times.

Overall I don't have a single complaint and so many praises for this book.  Nancy Straight has seriously rocked my book world once again.  Though I never doubted for a single moment that she would rock my world as she always has.  His Frozen Heart was a bright spot in my reading slump and I would highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys contemporary or someone that is looking for a break from the norm.

About the author:

I LOVE Starbucks’ White Mocha Latte and Mountain Dew, (but not together). I have a lead foot so I set cruise control when I drive, even in 25 MPH zones. I almost never win when I play Angry Birds, but have my 9 year old close, so he can clear the hard levels for me. I grew up on a farm and am opposed to eating fresh chicken (not opposed to meat - just opposed to any meat that was alive a few hours before lunch). I am a huge fan of the show, Big Bang Theory, on CBS. I share my life with two fantastic sons, three rotten dogs and a husband that I adore.
